Client Description: Sam is a nine-year-old boy who was diagnosed with Spastic Cerebral Palsy around the age of two. Sam utilizes a wheelchair and has tight and stiff leg muscles that limit his movement and participation in some activities. Walking causes Sam a lot of pain and leaves him fatigued. Sam has a learning disability and presents behavioral problems that interfere with social interactions. He is currently receiving school-age services offered through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Sam has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and is working on physical therapy, occupational therapy and recreational therapy. His favorite activities include video games, puzzles, swimming, and watching sports. Goals: Goal 1.0: Increase participation in group activities Goal 2.0: Improve physical endurance Intervention (To meet goals): Aquatic Therapy Objectives: Objective 1.1 (Related to Goal 1.0): The client will attend a weekly group aquatic exercise session and actively participate in a least 45 minutes of the one-hour session for 8 weeks. Objective 2.1: (Related to Goal 2.0) By the end of the eight-week session, the client will be able to tread water for 3 minutes without stopping.
